Natriumferrocyanid ist das Natriumsalz der Koordinationsverbindung der Formel [Fe (CN) 6] 4−. In seiner wasserhaltigen Form, Na4Fe (CN) 6 · 10H2O (Natriumferrocyanid-Decahydrat), wird es manchmal als gelbes Soda-Prussiat bezeichnet. Es ist ein gelber kristalliner Feststoff, der in Wasser löslich und in Alkohol unlöslich ist. Die gelbe Farbe ist die Farbe des Ferrocyanidanions. Trotz des Vorhandenseins der Cyanidliganden weist Natriumferrocyanid eine geringe Toxizität auf (akzeptable tägliche Aufnahme 0–0,025 mg / kg Körpergewicht). Die Ferrocyanide sind weniger toxisch als viele Cyanidsalze, da sie dazu neigen, kein freies Cyanid freizusetzen. Wie bei allen Ferrocyanidsalzlösungen kann die Zugabe einer Säure jedoch zur Bildung von Cyanwasserstoffgas führen, das toxisch ist.
Anwendungen
Natriumhexacyanoferrat (II) -decahydrat wird als mögliches Kathodenmaterial für Natriumionenbatterien verwendet und untersucht.
